Trereife House is looking forward to hosting its fourth Easter Bank Holiday Food and Craft Fair from Friday 6th to Monday 9th April. This event follows the huge success of last year’s Cornwall Design Fair and Food and Craft Fairs.

The weekend kicks off at this historic Queen Anne manor house and its spectacular grounds with a series of cookery demonstrations, craft demonstrations and a programme of entertainment.

Over the past years Trereife has developed a reputation for attracting some of the finest local food producers which is set to continue this Easter with larger marquees to house a wide range of producers from Worthy Farm Cheeses and Fish sales from ‘Cornish Smokies’, to locally produced beer, cider and wine, as well as this there will be a selection of high quality art and craft from Cornish designer-makers such as Marsha Drew jewellery and contemporary furniture design by Paul Wilcox.

One of the main attractions of the weekend is set be the highly entertaining food demonstrations by well known local chefs such as Robert Wright, owner and head chef of Penzance restaurant Untitled. Jamie Gaspare and her team of trainee Chefs from Penwith College and Sanjay Kumar from Slow Food Cornwall will all be serving up locally inspired dishes, alongside Philip Oakes from Cornwall College and Robin Turner from Newlyn’s fish industry. The ingredients used will all be locally sourced and will also be on sale at the event.

“The aim of these demonstrations”, says event coordinator, Rob Lewis, “is to promote locally sourced and sustainably produced ingredients, showing that Cornish is best.”

Away from the food demonstrations and at the top of every younger visitor’s list of things to do has to be the taking part in Trereife’s Grand Easter Egg Hunt. Set within the woods and around the walled garden, the Egg Hunt has become very popular with hundreds of happy children expected to be eagerly following the clues this year.

As well as the egg hunt, youngsters can have a go in the Funky Food Workshop or be totally amazed by story tellers and Magic Shows.

On top of this there will be a programme of live music and a series of craft demonstrations.

With Poppy Trefry… Just Over the Road!

Here’s what people are saying about our courses…

“The course made a perfect end to my holiday in St.Ives, big thank you to Poppy for a fabulous day!! A great day sewing and a lovely lunch too…oh and a fab goodie bag (a nice touch).”

“Marvellous course, a real treat and a memory to treasure!”

“Great to have a whole day doing something for fun with a lovely group of likeminded people”

And here’s what you will be doing on one of our courses…

The course is suitable for beginners and for those that want to take things a bit further. Learn the basics of freehand machine embroidery and come away from the day with a completed project, such as a tea cosy or a bag.

Poppy will provide 8 of her old singer sewing machines but participants are welcome to bring their own machine (it would help if you’ve had a go at freehand on the machine as Poppy can’t spend much time trouble shooting on machines she’s not familiar with!)

It’s also great if you want to bring any special scraps of fabric and pictures and photos to work from for inspiration.

The course starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm and will be held at Poppy’s workshop near Penzance.

You can also buy one of our courses as a gift for a friend. We will send you a printed confirmation in one of our greeting cards which you can present them with. Please note the terms below are still applicable although we may be able to switch bookings to an alternative date with enough notice.

The little print! There are 8 places on each course and we need 5 people booked on the course for it to go ahead. In the event of there not being enough people booked participants will have a choice of booking on to another date or a full refund will be issued. Payment in full is required to book your place on the course. If you are unable to attend the date you have booked for any reason we will refund you in full up to 4 weeks before the course date. You will be entitled to a 50% refund up to 2 weeks before the course date and no refund thereafter however you are more than welcome to send somebody else in your place.
We will contact you prior to the course date to confirm that it is running and to confirm the location to you. All courses will be running just outside Penzance, west Cornwall.

Fundraisers present new equipment to Cornwall Air Ambulance paramedics
The fundraising efforts of an iconic Cornish hotel and a country house have paid for important new equipment for the county’s air ambulance.
The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth and Trereife House near Newlyn held special events this summer, which raised enough money to buy three new combination scoop spinal boards for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The bright-green boards are crucial for transporting trauma patients who may have head, neck, pelvic or spinal injuries, from the scene of an accident to hospital. Trauma incidents account for around 50% of the missions flown by Cornwall’s air ambulance helicopter, making this type of equipment essential cargo on board.

This new “two in one” equipment replaces the traditional long board and scoop boards, and removes the need to move patients from one board to the other during emergency rescues.

Air crew paramedic Stuart Croft said: “The new boards are designed to separate into two pieces, enabling paramedics to place it underneath the patient and avoiding the traditional “log roll”, which can present additional risk to patients.
“These boards will be in regular use on our daily missions and will help us transport patients safely and efficiently.

“It’s great news that the fundraising efforts of the Greenbank Hotel and Trereife House have paid for a crucial piece of kit to help us do our job.”

The Greenbank raised almost £1000 through a charity ball in June as part of the Greenbank Fal River Festival, and also through discretionary donations from guests staying at the hotel.

Duncan Ayres, corporate sales manager for the hotel, said: “We were very keen that our fundraising was used effectively to buy kit for the air ambulance and paramedics. The scoop spinal boards serve as an excellent legacy from the donations of our guests.”

Meanwhile, Trereife House has so far raised £650 from proceeds through their Easter Craft Fair and Summer Fair. The estate has chosen Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust as its charity for the year and will continue to collect money from its guests and visitors.

Event manager at Trereife, Rob Lewis, said: “This donation is just the beginning of our efforts to raise money for what is a crucial service in the county. The air ambulance helps people throughout Cornwall, from all walks of life, and you never know when you might need its help.”

Fundraising is crucial to helping keep the Cornwall Air Ambulance flying – it costs around £1.6 million each year to run the helicopter, covering up to five missions a day during the summer season.
